Despite the scalping, I thought I might as well go ahead and take these... Poor guy. Sorry again, Buddy! Glad it was just hair... and you're still dang cute. :)
Sorry, Khaki!
*****
At 18 months old, you were:
- Just over 20 lbs (didn't gain much from your last appt, but no one is worried). The nurse called you a 20lb turkey! You are around the 10th percentile for both height and weight. For having been born at 8lb 8oz, you are kind of a shrimp now.
I'll write the rest of these details to reflect what you're doing today -- at 19.5mo. Too hard to try to tease out what was last month alone!
- You hair is growing back nicely. :)
- You are super ticklish!! Especially your thighs and your ribs!
- You attempt new words all the time. We are 100% in the chattering phase, and you will point, lunge and say a word over and over and over until we acknowledge what you're saying. Your main words (as of today, at least) are: car, truck, fish ("dith"), diaper, Khaki ("da-doo"), shoo-eee! (like for a stinky diaper), Eeeeeew!, yucky, yummy, banana (nana), Mama, Daddy, pool, shoes, night-night (which is also your word for a pacifier), TV, coffee, cow, diaper, and tickle-tickle.
- You know some animal sounds. Your favorites seem to be the cow ("OOOOO!"), duck, kitten ("Ommm?") and doggie ("Ow Ow!").
- We just changed your closet over to 18 month clothes, even though most of them still seem too big for you... You were still fitting pretty well into a lot of those 12mo clothes, but we packed most of them up. I don't think you'll ever fit the 18mo shorts though unless you grow a booty!
- Incredibly, you can actually still wear the size 3 diapers but we bumped you up to 4's.
- You are all about pouring and stacking things.
- You started swimming lessons last month, and you are coming along great! You can hold your breath for about 4-5 seconds under water (even go under to grab toys off of the steps). You blow "bubbles" on the surface of the water, and you know to kick kick kick your legs. It's actually more work now to be in the water with you because you are brave!
- You are ultra easy to put to bed. You don't take any milk before bed anymore. It's still not your very favorite, but you just drink it from a sippy at meals like normal. I know it's been this way for a while, but I still marvel at how you nap and sleep overnight beautifully. When we host people for dinner or anything, they are always amazed at how easy it is to put you to bed. We just turn on the sound machine, turn off the lights, hand you a paci and your teddy bear, and that's it. I absolutely love this about you. Most nights we read a few books before bedtime. You loooove books and ask to read more and more and more until we have to cut you off.
- You consistently want to throw your own diapers in the garbage pail. You can operate the Diaper Genie yourself, but I have to watch you because you have been known to put non-trash items in it when no one is looking!
- You and I do a "trick" where I lay on my back with my feet up over my head. You hold on to my toes and stand on my hands, and I raise you up in the sky. You like to let go and balance, standing on my hands, and you laugh like crazy when you fall and I catch you. I love it -- plus it's a great workout!

- Our routine these days is pretty wide open, especially since it is summertime. You get up at about 7 every day, and our only standing commitments fall on Wednesdays [swimming lessons 9-9:30 --- usually followed by a Costco run] and Thursdays [my favorite class at the gym, Strike, 9:45-10:45 --- usually followed by a lunch date, just you and me]. We swim for about an hour almost every day; praise the Lord for that pool and its super shallow splash zone (and our huge umbrella!).
Otherwise, we go to the library, the children's museum, run errands, or invite someone over to play. I treasure these quiet days; though they sometimes feel long, I know they are fleeting. You aren't usually very content just hanging out at home for long -- you get bored! -- but thankfully we live in a city that offers some options... I do look forward to the cooler weather again when we can walk to some parks and go to the train park again!
- You are friendly! When we go to the gym, you always want to walk - not be carried - as walk the long hallways toward the childcare area. You like to peek into the adjacent offices to the people at the desks and wave to them. I like to think you make their day - especially when you have your fedora on. :)
- You take me by the finger and pull me toward what you want/where you want to go.

You are our treasure and a gift from the Lord. Being your parents makes us better people, as we reflect on who we aspire for you to be. We love you, and it's amazing to think that Jesus loves you even more. What a privilege it is to be your mom and dad.
