Mikel was off for a 3-day weekend over the Labor Day holiday - yay!
Saturday morning, we ventured to Perk Eatery - a breakfast and lunch cafe not far from our house which was previously featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Like the naive, first-time parents that we are, we handed Nolan this jelly packet to play with while we waited for our food -- which he, of course, promptly popped open and got everywhere.
In the boring English muffin penalty box.
Then came the food. Glory.
Mom, Carolyn and Unkee Beel: that's a glass of whole milk you see! Doin' it up right.
Mikel ordered one of the Triple D recommendations: the southwestern style breakfast burritos with fried eggs on top. It was TASTY but way too spiceh for me.
I had this little nugget of heaven: banana and pecan praline pancakes.
Great diner that I bet we revisit. So fun to be in a larger city and experience some local places like that.

Sunday and Monday brought a lot of fun with our friends Sarah Smith and her fiance Jayme, who were up visiting for a work conference for Jayme. Sarah and Mikel were in the same graduating class at OBU and then OU Med. She is finishing up her peds ER fellowship in OKC, and they are planning their Dec 20th wedding. So exciting! We had not seen Sarah since med school graduation, and this was our first opportunity to meet Jayme. It was awesome having them here.
Sarah is a natural with babes... which I suppose is good when you're making your living in peds, but still! Nolan loooved her and went straight into her arms when she walked through the door.
They were staying at a swanky Scottsdale resort down the road and kindly invited us to join them at their pool for a few hours Monday afternoon. It was a blast - and so pretty!
The pool had a zero entry sand "beach". Nolan's first time in sand.
Sarah and Jayme entertained Nolan so that we could go down the loopy 3-story water slide a few times. Climbing the stairs and waiting for the lifeguard to give the "Okay" reminded me of those summers at Schlitterbahn.
There's the slide, on the right.
Love me some Pepsi on a hot day. The very fancy Doctor Smith scored us some free sodas -- and maybe a mojito and margarita later. Pays to have friends in high places at the Hyatt!
Grabbed a handful of photos on the way out.
OBU science buddies (and a future Bison) unite!
Thanks, Sarah and Jayme, for making us part of your vacation. It was wonderful seeing you and spending time together. Can't wait for December!!
