Maggie and Carolyn were introduced to me by Krista. It's funny -- all of our husbands trained at Mayo Rochester at the same time, we even moved away at the same time, but almost none of us knew each other when we lived there (Maggie and Carolyn are the exception). Now that we have all moved across the country, our paths have crossed and we love hanging out!
For the curious, Maggie's hub (neurologist) is doing his second fellowship, Carolyn's hub (peds anesthesia) is newly on staff at Children's Hospital. Krista's hub (dermatology) is doing residency at Mayo Scottsdale (went to med school in Rochester).
Anyway, we're all Rochester-grade people - easy to spot in Scottsdale - and it's been wonderful getting to know them and spend time together.
Maggie and I succumbed to this ALS ice bucket thing recently. I posted the original video on Facebook, per the challenge instructions, but then Maggie sent me the second half in reverse. And I collapse in peals of laughter every time I watch it (which is every day since we did it). :) You're welcome.
PS - That water was reeeeeeeally cold!
**If getting this via email, view the actual blog to watch the videos.

Sadly Krista couldn't join us, as she was doing grown up things like working on homeschool lesson plans (she is so grown up). Or at least that's what she claimed............ ;)

Back to the beginning of their arrival that morning ---
As usual, Khaki managed to be the star of the show - especially to Ella.
Ella (Maggie) and Kate (Carolyn)
Scarlett got a little more brave when she saw these 4 years olds are more gentle than most...
Scarlett, giving Kate a sniffing-over.
Maggie came with donuts in tow. Brilliant!! This was Nolan's first donut experience, and it was gone in 2 seconds.
Dominic (Maggie) - 2yr
Too busy to smile
Carolyn and Maggie!
Setting the stage
That's a lot of ice!
After we upheld our challenge duties, we all had fun swimming. With this many kids, it was impossible to snap any pics --- we were too concerned with making sure each little person was accounted for. And with Nolan's bravery in the water, you can't avert your eyes for a second!
I threw together some PBJ's for the kids and we moms had some fruit, cheese and crackers. Pretty tasty on a hot day of swimming.
Dominick pounded a whole sandwich. Nolan, who is usually an avid supporter of PBJ's and grapes, didn't want N-E-THING to do with it and instead wanted to crunch on the ice. He was obsessed! Every time he would run out, he would yell, "IIIIIIIIE! IIIIIIIE!!" and go wandering off to find another piece. And so he had ice for lunch. Whatever.
"Nummy."
These two cute girls didn't even want to come up for lunch. They just played and played in the splash zone and reminded me how much I loooooove this pool!
Before everyone took off, Khaki had to show her stuff. The visiting kids were thoroughly, thoroughly entertained and took turns throwing Khaki's toy for her.
Nolan meanwhile concerned himself with the quickly melting pile of ice that remained.
Khaki is so funny!
She slept for the rest of the afternoon.
Ella was very concerned that Khaki was shivering when we went back inside and wrapped her in her towel. Such a sweet girl!
So glad you guys came over -- and Maggie, I'm glad I had you for misery-company! We made a great memory. Looking forward to next time!
I can't believe your child made it almost to 2 without having a donut!!!! What kind of parent are you?! ;)
ReplyDeleteI know! I guess we just never have them! (though I did realize since writing this that has once had donut holes!)
DeleteWell, that makes me feel a little better! =)
